New York, USA, August 26, 2006
This Seminar, which immediately follows the 8th Session of the Ad Hoc Committee on the UN Convention on the Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities, will include various experts that represent the international disability community. It will address how persons with disabilities, governments, practitioners and advocates can utilize the rights enshrined in the Convention to develop projects and policies that would benefit the growing population of persons with disabilities around the world. Specific topics of discussion will include implementation, enforcement, monitoring, good practices, and implications of ratification. Some of the more challenging issues that will be part of the Ad Hoc Committee Session will likely be discussed as well, such as definitional issues around “disability” and legal capacity.
